New Solar Technology

Chinese scientists have developed a solar cell that harvests energy from raindrops, according to a report by the Science News Journal .

The solar cell has an atom-thick graphene layer, which helps create a “pseudocapacitor” when water lands on it.

“The energy difference between these layers is so strong that it generates electricity,” states the report.

The new solar cells can also generate power from sunlight, yielding an “optimal energy conversion efficiency of 6.53 % under 1.5 atmosphere”.
